Malaysia - Visit Malaysia 2026 - Postcard 2
This is the second of two different designed postcards by Pos Malaysia for Visit Malaysia 2026 with new stamps issued. This postcard featured the Proboscis Monkey, Orangutan, Malayan Bear, Elephant, Tapir, Tiger, Hornbil, etc which are selected animal postcards that I collect. So it is an all in one animal postcard for my collection.

Wow.. an awesome 3D postcard of orangutans in Virginia Zoo, Virginia, USA. This photo cannot capture the beauty of this 3D effect postcard - it has to been by a pair of naked eyes to truly appreciate it. Thanks so much to Van of Virginia, USA for this amazing postcard with nice stamps.

The first time I saw orangutan was in Taiping Zoo, Perak. Bought this postcard at the Taiping Zoo and Night Safari in September, 2016.

Indonesia - Sumatra - Orangutan

I visited Medan and Lake Toba in North Sumatra but did not get a chance to visit the nearby Bukit Lawang Rehabilation Center, Bohorok, North Sumatra. I have met before a Japanese photographer who showed me a photo an orangutan in the tree eating durian - a thorny thick outer skin aromatic fruit. Sumatran tigers are also a threatened species. Orangutan rehabilation center in Bukit Lawang, near Bohorok, North Sumatra. Thanks to Ammy of Singapore who was visiting North Sumatra.

A male orangutan at the Tanjung Puting rehabilation center in Kalimantan, Borneo Island of Indonesia. Beautiful flora/fauna stamps. Thanks to Shinta of Indonesia.
Singapore - Singapore Day Zoo - Orangutan
There is a large number of orangutans in the Singapore Day Zoo. I enjoyed seeing the orangutans at close distance at the Zoo. Great addition to my postcard collection of orangutan

Orangutans are found in Singapore, not in the wild, but as popular animal ambassadors in the Singapore Zoo. I have visited Singapore Zoo many times before.

Malaysia - Orangutans
Presently, orangutans are found only in the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo Island. There are no orangutan population although fossils have been found in Peninsular Malaysia of the Malay Thai Peninsula as well as in Vietnam long ago.
In Malay, "orang" means "person" and "hutan" or "utan" means jungle. There are species of orangutans, the Sumatran orangutan and the Borneo orangutan.
I have visited the Semmengok Orangutan Rehabilation Center near Kuching in Sarawak, Borneo island.

Malaysia - Penang - Orangutan in Botanical Gardens
For several years, there was a small zoo in the Botanical Gardens of Penang island which included a cage for orangutan. Fortunately, the zoo has been closed as the animals are kept in small confined places and subject to some irresponsible public taunts.
