Malaysia - Orangutans

Presently, orangutans are found only in the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo Island. There are no orangutan population although fossils have been found in Peninsular Malaysia of the Malay Thai Peninsula as well as in Vietnam long ago.

In Malay, "orang" means "person" and "hutan" or "utan" means jungle. There are species of orangutans, the Sumatran orangutan and the Borneo orangutan.

I have visited the Semmengok Orangutan Rehabilation Center near Kuching in Sarawak, Borneo island.
