Population of Afghans is 30 million including 2.7 million refugees still living in Pakistan and Iran. Main ethnic groups include Pashtun 42%, Tajik 27%, Hazara 9%. Uzbek 9% , Aimaq, Turkmen, Baloch, etc with 81% Sunni Muslim, 15% Shi'a Muslim. Pashto and Dari (Persian) are the official languages. At one time, even postcards were banned.
