Drums were traditionally a symbol of royal power in Burundi. Drums were made from tree trunks and covered with animal hides. At the start of drumming ceremony, the drummers were carried on the heads. The heron stamp used is from Burundi flora and fauna stamp issue in December 2008 - Royal Eagle (100F), Heron (810F), Maracuja Flower (500F), Werner Flower (150F), Erythrine Flower (90F).
Burundi - my first postcard
Wow...my first postcard mailed from Burundi. I have been waiting for a postcard sent from this less travelled Central African country for a long time, arrived in August 2009. Batimbo is a local dance with drum. Nice postmarked "heron" stamp, postage 810F or Burundian francs. Thanks to Paul.

When I started this blog, my goal was to collect a postcard mailed from every country and postal territory in the world. If I cannot travel to every place on earth, I can try to get a postcard mailed from ever corner of earth to travel to my mailbox address in Penang. Have you set any postcard collection goal?
