Ghana - Gateway to Afirca

AFRICA - Angola - Angolan

Angola has a population of 18 million. Main ethnic groups are Ovimbundu (language Umbundu) 37%, Ambundu (language Kimbundu) 25%, Bakongo 13%, and 32% other ethnic groups like Chokwe, Ovambo, Mbunda, Ganguela, Xindonga, mestiços (mixed European and African), Chinese, European. Leila Lopes, Miss Angola 2011, was crowned Miss Universe 2011.

AFRICA - Algeria - Algerian

There is 37.9 million Algerians with 99% Arab-Berber. Islam is the religion for 99% too. Arabic is the official language with a quarter of population who can speak Berber and the largest group outside France to speak French. View of Kasbah of Algeria. Nice South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup stamps used. Postmarked Setif May 17, 2010 and arrived in Penang on June 3, 2010. Thanks to Ramzi of Algeria.


AFRICA - Benin - Beninese

Population is 9.6 million with French the official language and Fon and Yoruba widely used.

AFRICA - Burkina Faso - Burkinabe

Burkina Faso has a population of 15.7 million with Mossi making almost half the population and with other various ethnic groups. French is the official language.

A wonderful postcard from Burkina Faso, West Africa. It is my third postcard from Burkina Faso and still felt really excited and delighted to receive this postcard. Great beautiful stamps too. Thanks so much to Janie. It was postmarked at Gorom Gorom, Burkina Faso and mailed on March 22, 2009 and received on April 22, 2009.


AFRICA - Burundi - Burundian

Burundi has a population with 8.8 million with a majority of Hutu and minority Tutsi. Kirunda and French are the official languages.

Wow...my first postcard mailed from Burundi. I have been waiting for a postcard sent from this less travelled Central African country for a long time. Batimbo is a local dance with drum. Nice postmarked "heron" stamp, postage 810F. Thanks to Paul.

AFRICA - Guinea-Bissau

"Aladje serifo camara regulo de cadique" written on the reverse of postcard. Chris visited Guinea-Bissau and found this only postcard but the post office was closed. So this postcard was bought in Guinea-Bissau and sent inside an envelope from UK.

AFRICA - Liberia - People

Wow... this is my first postcard sent written stamped from Liberia. Thanks to Melosh of Florida who visited Liberia and travelled 45 minutes to reach the post office to get this postcard and the nice stamps. According to Melosh, the post office does not see much business these days.

AFRICA - Malawi

One of my first postcards from Africa came from the Malawi. The old name was Nyasaland along the Lake Nyasa. It took awhile for the postcard to arrive but the important thing is that it did.
